How to Avoid a $60-a/month furniture rental scam article “This is a really bad, bad deal,” said Michael Krummen, who owns furniture retailer, Ikea.
He said he is paying $600 a month for his new furniture.
“They’re not paying for the time it takes me to get it in, the labor it takes them to assemble it and assemble it properly, the cleaning that goes into it.”
Krummens is an avid reader and said he was able to buy some of the furniture online.
“I did a little shopping on eBay and bought it,” he said.
“It was pretty darn good.”
Krommen is not alone in his struggle.
“The worst part about this is it’s very easy to get a little bit of money in there, and that’s when it gets really bad,” said Jana Dufresne, a former furniture-shopping addict who quit her job as a cashier at a major department store after being cheated out of more than $1,000 a month.
“Once you get into the $600 to $600,000 range, it’s pretty much a joke,” Dufersne said.
Dufrees said her biggest problem with the scam is that the company makes it sound like the furniture is brand-new and then asks her to return it.
“You can’t just walk out of there and say, ‘I’m buying this piece of furniture,'” Dufre said.
Many of the companies have a “do not buy” policy.
However, some are making their own rules and only asking people to return items if they have already paid for them.
The rules vary from company to company, but if you see an item with a “no return” sign on it, it could be fake.
“If you go in and say that you have the item, but they don’t have the pieces, they don.
That’s called ‘no return,'” said David Jankovic, owner of Janko.com.
“But if you say, I have it, but I have the money, I can take it back,” Jankos said.
For those who have to return their unwanted furniture, Jankojets offers a way to “return it” online.
Jankolyns offers a tool that is supposed to make it easier for customers to return furniture without having to leave their home.
It allows customers to print out a receipt and return it via mail or fax.
“When we send it, we put a stamp in it saying ‘return it,'” Jankolson said.
If you have to get the item back yourself, Janksons website has instructions on how to do that.
“In the past, it was very hard for people to get their items back,” he added.
“And now it’s easier for people.”
Some of the businesses have also added a “Return It” box to their website.
The boxes, like the others above, also ask for a $25 deposit.
“So if you go through and get your items, they’re going to give you a refund,” said Dufret.
“No strings attached.
No strings attached.”
